Why Don’t You Carve Other Animals

under the direction of Nontsikelelo Mutiti
Lettering commissioned by Black Chalk & Co. for 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in New York, New York. The scope of work included a two-sided broadside poster featuring the program’s title. Scans of the original lettering are included below in B/W.

“The program takes its point of departure from Yvonne Vera’s title short story ‘Why Don’t You Carve Other Animals’. Yvonne Vera recognised the potential of the literary text to function as an important means of appropriating, inverting and challenging dominant means of representation and colonial ideologies(1).”
