Meager

typeface
Meager began its life under the guidance of Hannes Famira during a Type@Cooper course. It takes inspiration from an 1889 Schrifenatlas (type portfolio) published by Verlag von Julius Hoffmann in Stuttgart, Germany. This Schrifenatlas contained collected types by Ludwig Petzendorfer, including two types cut by Bauer & Comp. named ‘Magere Elzevir-Antiqua’ and ‘Magere Elzevir Kursive.’ Meager takes a synthetic approach to the revival of these types. Drawn at 2000 UPM, it’s light and crisp and has soft terminals that are an homage to the letterpress type's soft impression.

Meager is currently being extended into a three-axis variable font (weight, slant, optical size). A demo version (V1) is available for use under a WTFPL license via emailed request.
